Moss varies street to street here, so roof cleaning in Sleaford starts with a proper look. We take the growth off by hand, then treat the tiles so it’s slower back.
Sleaford is on the edge of the Lincolnshire fens. The ground is flat and drains slowly, so drives and patios get dirty quickly. In spring and summer dust blows in off the fields, and the Navigation canal keeps the air damp enough for moss and algae on north-facing walls and roofs all year. Houses near the watermill and the canal especially need cleaning regularly.
Sleaford sits between the damp fen and the drier limestone heath, so moss on roofs varies a lot from street to street. The lower streets near the Slea get it worst, with heavy moss on north-facing pitches.
We clean Sleaford roofs from ladders rather than walking on them, so tiles and pointing aren’t harmed.
New-build estates and older town houses differ, so we match the method to the surface.
