Why Navenby roofs still need roof cleaning

Navenby is one of the Cliff villages south of Lincoln, with honey-coloured limestone buildings open to the wind along the top of the ridge. Roofs here still spend long spells damp and in shade, and moss and lichen don’t need much more than that. Growth on the north-facing pitches holds water against the tiles and pointing, and bit by bit the roof wears out.

Roof cleaning in Navenby by Fenland Property Care

Moss on a Cliff-top roof

Wind across the Cliff top doesn’t keep moss off Navenby’s roofs. It settles on the tiles quickly, along with lichen, and north-facing pitches that dry slowly after rain get the most.

✗

Tiles lifting

Roots work beneath the tiles and into the ridge pointing, so over time small gaps open and rain gets in.

✗

Freeze-thaw damage

Moss soaks up water, then frost makes it swell, and by spring tiles have cracked and pointing has worn.

✗

Blocked valleys

When moss gathers in valleys it blocks drainage and damp follows.

✗

Kerb appeal

From the road a mossy roof is easy to see, and buyers may well look elsewhere.

How roof cleaning in Navenby works

Roof assessment

First we check the moss, the tiles and anything that needs repairing soon.

Scraped by hand

Then moss is removed without walking on the roof.

Biocide application

Next we spray the whole roof, so the rest dies and regrowth slows.

Report on the roof

Before we go we report on the tiles and advise on repairs.

Navenby roof cleaning questions

Q: Will someone walk on my roof?

A: No. Because we work from ladders with long-reach tools, in most cases no one goes on the roof.

Q: How long does treatment keep moss away?

A: Generally 3–5 years. Still, north-facing roofs in shade that stay damp may need it sooner.

Q: Do you repoint ridges?

A: Yes. If we notice damaged pointing while cleaning, we can then repoint the ridge as an add-on.

Q: Is soft washing safe for my roof?

A: Yes. It’s low pressure, so soft washing is safe on clay and concrete tiles and on slate too, and it removes the growth without damage.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The operative arrived on time, as arranged. Brought the necessary kit to clean an accumulation of dirt, weeds and debris over several years from our drive and patio. This was accomplished by the end of the working day when all was looking pristine. Surfaces had been cleaned down. A week later they were back to fill the gaps with kiln dried sand and now it looks like new.

My front and back garden look brand new. All slabs are the original colour and weedless and the front is weed free and looks amazing. They worked really hard throughout the day and also returned to finish the work, due to really hot weather. Very good customer service, had a concer and called me back within 30 minutes. Would definitely recommend 👌

From start to finish what an absolute pleasure.
No pushy salesman just an authentic genuine quote. Even when I added a couple of bits, nothing was too much trouble. The price was really good too.
Paul and Dale turned up on time on the date stated. Even though the weather was horrible they got cracked on with the job.
They grafted all the time they were there. The work carried out was exceptionally good. They cleaned up all of the mess afterwards and let the place spotless.
I cannot praise them enough.
They treated my mum and her bungalow with the utmost respect.
