Why Waddington roofs still need roof cleaning

Waddington sits up on the Cliff, the limestone ridge just south of Lincoln. It’s an exposed, ridge-top spot, and you might think that keeps roofs dry, but plenty of them still stay damp and shaded for long spells. Moss finds the north-facing pitches first. It traps water against tiles and pointing and gradually shortens the roof’s life.

What moss does on the ridge

Being on the ridge doesn’t keep Waddington’s roofs clear. Moss and lichen still settle on the tiles fast, mostly on north-facing pitches that are slow to dry after rain.

✗

Moss under tiles

As roots spread under the tiles and into the ridge pointing, gaps open, and rain then gets in.

✗

Freeze-thaw damage

Moss holds water. Then it freezes and swells, so through the winter tiles crack and pointing wears.

✗

Blocked valleys

It also clogs the valleys, so drainage stops and damp follows.

✗

Kerb appeal

From the road, a mossy roof is easy to spot, and it can put buyers off.

Waddington roof cleaning FAQs

Q: Will you walk across the tiles?

A: No. Since we use ladders with long-reach tools, in most cases nobody needs to go on the roof.

Q: How long does a treatment keep moss off?

A: Generally 3–5 years. North-facing roofs in shade that stay damp, though, may need it sooner.

Q: Do you repoint ridges as well?

A: Yes. If we spot damaged pointing while cleaning, we can then repoint the ridge as an extra.

Q: Is soft washing suitable for my roof?

A: Yes. Soft washing is low pressure, so it’s safe on concrete and clay tiles and also on slate, and it clears growth without any damage.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The operative arrived on time, as arranged. Brought the necessary kit to clean an accumulation of dirt, weeds and debris over several years from our drive and patio. This was accomplished by the end of the working day when all was looking pristine. Surfaces had been cleaned down. A week later they were back to fill the gaps with kiln dried sand and now it looks like new.

My front and back garden look brand new. All slabs are the original colour and weedless and the front is weed free and looks amazing. They worked really hard throughout the day and also returned to finish the work, due to really hot weather. Very good customer service, had a concer and called me back within 30 minutes. Would definitely recommend 👌

From start to finish what an absolute pleasure.
No pushy salesman just an authentic genuine quote. Even when I added a couple of bits, nothing was too much trouble. The price was really good too.
Paul and Dale turned up on time on the date stated. Even though the weather was horrible they got cracked on with the job.
They grafted all the time they were there. The work carried out was exceptionally good. They cleaned up all of the mess afterwards and let the place spotless.
I cannot praise them enough.
They treated my mum and her bungalow with the utmost respect.
