Roof cleaning in Barton-upon-Humber by the estuary

Barton-upon-Humber sits right under the Humber Bridge, and the wind off the estuary reaches most of the town for much of the year. It leaves a fine salty film on windows and fascias, and on render too, and if that’s left to build up it wears surfaces faster. Houses on the north side of town, facing the water, get the worst of it. The older Georgian buildings by the river have soft brick and stonework, so we clean those carefully at low pressure rather than blasting them.

Signs your Barton roof needs attention

Being on the estuary, roofs in Barton-upon-Humber collect salt as well as the usual moss and lichen. Over time the salt works into the tile surface and weakens it, so regular cleaning and treatment matters more here than it would further inland.

βœ—
Tiles lifting
Moss pushes its roots beneath tiles and into the ridge pointing, so before long there are gaps for rain to get through.
βœ—
Freeze-thaw damage
A soaked clump of moss turns to ice when it freezes, so through a winter tiles split and pointing wears thin.
βœ—
Blocked valleys
When moss gathers in the valleys it stops the water draining and damp follows.
βœ—
Lower asking price
From the street a mossy roof stands out, and buyers then start asking what else has been neglected.

Moss removal
Built-up moss scraped off and brushed away from every slope.
Biocide treatment
A biocide spray that lasts, so leftover lichen dies and doesn’t settle back as quickly.

Loose or cracked ridge mortar taken out and replaced, so wind and rain stay out.

Scraping by hand
Moss is then scraped off from ladders while nobody walks the roof.

Roof cleaning in Barton-upon-Humber questions

Q: Do you deal with Humber estuary salt contamination in Barton-upon-Humber?
A: Yes. Homes facing the Humber get a salty film on them, and we use products and methods suited to cleaning it off properly. We cover all of Barton-upon-Humber and the Humber-bank villages around it in North Lincolnshire.
Q: Will you walk on the tiles?
A: No. Long-reach tools on ladders mean that, in most cases, nobody has to get onto the roof itself.
Q: How long does the roof treatment last?
A: Most roofs get 3–5 years from it, but damp north-facing slopes in shade can need it again sooner.
Q: Is ridge repointing something you do?
A: It is, as an add-on. When we notice damaged pointing during the clean, we let you know and can repoint it.

The operative arrived on time, as arranged. Brought the necessary kit to clean an accumulation of dirt, weeds and debris over several years from our drive and patio. This was accomplished by the end of the working day when all was looking pristine. Surfaces had been cleaned down. A week later they were back to fill the gaps with kiln dried sand and now it looks like new.

Absolutely brilliant service. Very professional and friendly. Came to give a quote and was pleasantly surprised. My front and back garden look brand new. All slabs are the original colour and weedless and the front is weed free and looks amazing. They worked really hard throughout the day and also returned to finish the work, due to really hot weather. Very good customer service, had a concer and called me back within 30 minutes. Would definitely recommend πŸ‘Œ

An excellent job. From start to finish what an absolute pleasure. No pushy salesman just an authentic genuine quote. Even when I added a couple of bits, nothing was too much trouble. The price was really good too. Paul and Dale turned up on time on the date stated. Even though the weather was horrible they got cracked on with the job. They grafted all the time they were there. The work carried out was exceptionally good. They cleaned up all of the mess afterwards and let the place spotless. I cannot praise them enough. They treated my mum and her bungalow with the utmost respect.

Fenland did a great job cleaning and re-sanding my block paving path and my patio. Polite and efficient and cleaned the doors and windows where the dirt had splashed. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.
