Why Heckington roofs need regular roof cleaning

Heckington is a fen village east of Sleaford, set in open, flat country where the air is often damp. Roofs here can stay wet for long spells, and moss gets going on the north-facing side first. Once it’s thick it holds water against the tiles and pointing, which slowly shortens the roof’s life.

Roof cleaning in Heckington by Fenland Property Care

When moss becomes a problem

Out in the open fen around Heckington, damp air means moss and lichen settle on roof tiles quickly. It’s usually worst on the north-facing pitch, which can stay wet for a long time after rain.

✗

Tiles lifting

Roots spread under tiles and into the ridge pointing, so gaps open up while the moss grows, and water gets in.

✗

Freeze-thaw damage

Since moss holds water, frost makes it expand. Through a winter it cracks tiles and wears pointing down.

✗

Blocked valleys

Moss in the valleys blocks the drainage, and then damp follows.

✗

Kerb appeal

From the road, a mossy roof is one of the first things anyone sees, and it can put buyers off.

Roof cleaning in Heckington, common questions

Q: Do you walk on the tiles?

A: No. Because we work from ladders with long-reach tools, in most cases nobody needs to go on the roof.

Q: How often does a roof need treating?

A: Generally every 3–5 years. But shaded north-facing roofs that stay damp may need it sooner.

Q: Can you repoint my ridge?

A: Yes. If we find damaged pointing while we clean, we can then repoint the ridge as an extra.

Q: Is soft washing safe on old tiles?

A: Yes. Soft washing uses low pressure, so it’s safe on concrete and clay tiles as well as slate, and it removes growth without causing damage.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The operative arrived on time, as arranged. Brought the necessary kit to clean an accumulation of dirt, weeds and debris over several years from our drive and patio. This was accomplished by the end of the working day when all was looking pristine. Surfaces had been cleaned down. A week later they were back to fill the gaps with kiln dried sand and now it looks like new.

My front and back garden look brand new. All slabs are the original colour and weedless and the front is weed free and looks amazing. They worked really hard throughout the day and also returned to finish the work, due to really hot weather. Very good customer service, had a concer and called me back within 30 minutes. Would definitely recommend 👌

From start to finish what an absolute pleasure.
No pushy salesman just an authentic genuine quote. Even when I added a couple of bits, nothing was too much trouble. The price was really good too.
Paul and Dale turned up on time on the date stated. Even though the weather was horrible they got cracked on with the job.
They grafted all the time they were there. The work carried out was exceptionally good. They cleaned up all of the mess afterwards and let the place spotless.
I cannot praise them enough.
They treated my mum and her bungalow with the utmost respect.
