Why Billinghay properties need decking cleaning

Billinghay is a fen village on the B1189, not far from Sleaford. It’s surrounded by flat farmland and drainage dykes, and in a village this size the fields come right up to the back gardens. Low ground stays wet for longer, and soil blows about when the fields are being worked, so decks and paths pick up damp and dirt together. We deal with both when we clean decking here.

Decking cleaning in Billinghay by Fenland Property Care

Decking cleaning in Billinghay, and why it pays

Decks in Billinghay are out in the open on flat fen land. They get soil blown off the fields on top of the usual damp, which gives algae plenty to feed on.

✗

Wet algae

Algae turns a damp deck into a slide, especially when the soil off the fields gives it more to feed on. So we soft wash it away, gently.

✗

Black mould

Once black mould shows on and between the boards, it has got well into the surface. Because of that, we treat it before cleaning and keep the timber intact.

✗

Greying & weathering

On open fen land, timber goes grey under the sun while algae works on it too. But a good clean brings much of the natural colour back.

✗

Silt in the gaps

Blown soil and moss pack into the gaps, then hold water against the boards. We clear them out while we clean, every time.

How we clean decks in Billinghay

Free look and quote

We check the deck over, timber or composite, its size and its condition, and then give you a fixed price. You're under no obligation.

Biocide pre-treatment

Before we wash anything, a biocide goes on to kill the algae and mould, so the deck stays cleaner for longer.

Soft washing

Next comes a low-pressure soft wash, which clears the residue while leaving timber and composite unharmed.

Between-board clearing

Then we clear the moss and blown-in soil from between the boards.

Rinse & clear

Finally we take all the waste away. As soon as the deck dries, generally in a couple of hours, you can use it again.

Decking cleaning in Billinghay, your questions answered

Q: Is pressure washing bad for decking?

A: It often is. High pressure splits timber and marks composite boards. Instead we soft wash at low pressure, so the algae and mould shift while the surface stays intact.

Q: Do you work on composite decking?

A: Yes. Composite responds well to a soft wash, and we use methods that are safe for all the major brands, so you won't void the manufacturer's warranty.

Q: Can we use the deck the same day?

A: Usually, yes. When we've finished and cleared up, the boards generally dry in a couple of hours, and then the deck is ready to use.

Q: Should I seal or oil it after cleaning?

A: For timber decking it's worth doing, because an oil or stain protects the wood and keeps it looking good for longer. We can also suggest products that suit.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The operative arrived on time, as arranged. Brought the necessary kit to clean an accumulation of dirt, weeds and debris over several years from our drive and patio. This was accomplished by the end of the working day when all was looking pristine. Surfaces had been cleaned down. A week later they were back to fill the gaps with kiln dried sand and now it looks like new.

My front and back garden look brand new. All slabs are the original colour and weedless and the front is weed free and looks amazing. They worked really hard throughout the day and also returned to finish the work, due to really hot weather. Very good customer service, had a concer and called me back within 30 minutes. Would definitely recommend 👌

From start to finish what an absolute pleasure.
No pushy salesman just an authentic genuine quote. Even when I added a couple of bits, nothing was too much trouble. The price was really good too.
Paul and Dale turned up on time on the date stated. Even though the weather was horrible they got cracked on with the job.
They grafted all the time they were there. The work carried out was exceptionally good. They cleaned up all of the mess afterwards and let the place spotless.
I cannot praise them enough.
They treated my mum and her bungalow with the utmost respect.
